It chronicals the development of Apple computer from the first Apple through the Lisa, endless varities of Macintosh and today's iPod. Throughout the story, the massive ups and collosal failures of this American instution are laid bare.The layout is interesting as well. As characters are introduced, the reader frequently wonders "What happened to them?" More often than not, the question is answered in a sidebar. This was a good book about the history of Apple. I am NOT an Apple fanboy by any means. In fact, I don't own a single Apple product and never have. But I have always been intrigued by the genius of Steve Jobs and how difficult it was to work for him. I'd recommend this book for anyone that loves the history of how a big business got started.

I eagerly bought Apple Confidential 2.0 after reading a positive article about it on a well known computer news web site. This book doesn't disappoint - I read the entire thing cover to cover in about three days, although in retrospect, it would have been fun to spread it out a bit more to enjoy it longer.The book is well written and easy to read, and very importantly in this often heated subject matter, it appears to be genuinely unbiased. Featuring the story of Apple Computer Inc. from its inception to the present, the book not only gives a general overview of the good and bad times at Apple, but also presents many juicy tidbits. Sidebars throughout the text present numerous quotes from well known players - Steve Jobs, Wozniak, and many others. Pictures of some of the early machines are provided as well as timelines for various products and CEO's.As another bonus, the resignation letters of several of Apple's CEO's are included in the text.On the downside, the latter part of the book is not quite as good with several omissions such as mention of the wildly popular XServe and the Virginia Tech supercomputer cluster made with XServe's. This seems like a fairly glaring oversight considering how important the enterprise market is to Apple these days.Overall, I think any Apple history buff would find the book fascinating, and I can even imagine that the book would be interesting to people who don't know much about Apple at all. The history of Apple is quite interesting and should provide engaging reading material for nearly anyone.What are you waiting for? Buy the book!

A fair amount of research is artlessly relayed to the reader in a monotonous, book-report style. Equal emphasis is given to trivial details and momentous events. The book has no conceptual arc; it ends without concluding anything. Glaringly unedited in any perceivable way, it's hard to imagine how this got published at a time when its subject, Apple Computers, was either ignored or greeted with hostility by the overwhelming majority of computer uses. Published 10 years later, Walter Isaacson's biography of Steve Jobs is more fluidly composed, but is pretty much a rushed summary of facts with his life little, much like Apple Confidential, which suggests that valuable historical assessments of Apple may be another 20 years in coming.

Some good, easy to read information for Mac novices who want to learn some early Apple lore.A bit dated now, a lot has happened since the book was published.

I have read some of the reviews of this book. I used the "Mac Bathroom Reader", as well as the Levy book "Insanely Great" during my quest to be CEO of Apple. Both were helpful in outlining the people that I would potentially be dealing with. Steve especially.When working with people, it is nice to know all the angles. Nothing to say about the plays themselves, it's just that this version has 'translated' versions of all plays, which basically amounts to very unnecessary revision. Marlowe's English doesn't need translation, just foot notes IF THAT. It's not like The Canterbury Tales where when it was written not only was English HEAVILY non-standardized (Elizibethan English was not that much better, but it's a lot closer to Modern English so eh.) but also there was still a lot of Old English vocabulary and turns of phrase so translating it (while I personally feel ruins the poetry of it all) makes sense. Elizabethan English, while old and in some ways foreign to any modern user, is utterly readable. There's not off putting spellings or unapproachably 'weird' words. It's basically 'proto'-Modern English. The idea that one needs a 'translation' or 'update' to be able to enjoy Marlowe is ridiculous and insulting.

At the front of the book you will find a 35 page introduction, and several pages of recommended further reading.The Dr Faustus text apparently is from 1604 version aka the 'A' Text. The 1616 or 'B' text is not included. From my research the B text was substantially altered from the A text adding about 600 lines. If you want to get all the Marlowe including the poems for a modest price, I recommend you get the Complete Works of Christopher Marlowe (Illustrated) edition on Kindle which includes both versions. If you don't have Kindle you can download the app from Amazon. This also includes an apocryphal play Lust's Dominion attributed by some experts to Marlowe.As an alterantive to Penguin, I recommend you consider Doctor Faustus and Other Plays (Oxford World's Classics) (Parts I and II). This has both versions of Faust but does not include Dido. I don't own this exact version but but I do own the two version of Faust by the same editor Bevington, whose scholarship on this subject is amazing.If this edition included both Faust texts, I would have given it five stars.Scholars say that Marlowe influenced Shakespeare. Certainly from my own readership of both Marlowe and Shakespeare there is a conscious intention of the writer of Shakespeare to link those plays to Marlowe. For example, a recent book I read lists over 100 parallel sayings between Hamlet and various Marlowe works.Today reading the Arden edition of Hamlet, the scene in Act 2 where Hamlet asks the visiting player to give a speech, he quotes 70 lines from a scene in Dido. Faustus is a scholar from Wittenberg. Hamlet, the Danish prince discusses returning to University in Wittenberg. Perhaps he would stay T Dr Faust's house.Although, some attempt to pigeonhole Marlowe, as only a great tragedian, or say that he is bombastic based on Tamburlaine, sometimes he leverages tragedy to the point of absurdity, and Edward the 2nd, for example is a remarkably sensitive play, and the opening scene of Dido is quite humorous, and Jew of Malta, is best understood as a machiavellian tragedy with farcical elements. Even with Faustus, Mephistopheles is not an obvious villain, but a reluctant fallen angel."Bid On Kai me on farewell Faust 1.1.12;" means Bid being and nonbeing farewell.Marlowe is an absolutely outstanding playwright and poet. His use of blank (unrhymed) verse was imitated by everyone including Shakespeare.If you're like me, when you read Marlowe, you never know when you're going to be hit by an amazing line. I find inspiration in his work every day.I think you will love it and I hope this was helpful.

Marlowe was a maniac with the gift of language..... all of the plays in this anthology deal with transgression, with crossing boundaries, with taking the sno-globe and shaking it! and with delight in doing so. Tamerlane is terrific.... "black be the beauty of the brightest day".... the story of a local boy who makes good! it's not a tragedie, unless you are not him:)getting into Faust now.... need to back up and make the big space. Marlowe was fearless, be a fearless reader! there will be rewards:)

What's not to love about Christopher Marlowe! Great value for the price!

I certainly enjoyed reading these plays, but it's easy to see why Marlowe is considered an inferior playwright to William Shakespeare. The characters, from the tragic ones to the heroic ones, seem rather flat and one-dimensional. There were a couple of the plays like Dido: Queen of Carthage and the First and Second Parts of Tamburlaine where I had trouble even caring about the plights of any of the characters. I think they were meant to be melodramatic and larger than life, but nowadays it seems rather laughable and instead of standing up to the true test of time, these characters fall flat. I felt he did only one play really well and that was the Jew of Malta. It's dark comedy at its finest and is worth reading just for that. I suppose I got exactly what I expected from these plays and they were interesting reads as historical pieces.

I'm mad for Marlowe, Christopher Marlowe, that is!I liked the library book so much that I decided to own a copy for myself.To my surprise and delight, Amazon had the very same book, so I bought it.And it came in a reasonable amount of time (just under a week).I have ordered from Amazon before, and will do so again, as I need to,and have the funds. The book was in mint-new condition. Ifound the place where I left off reading the library copywith no problem, and marked it with one of my many bookmarks.I'm so delighted with this book that I can't wait to go thepark to read it aloud with my friend.

This is funny stuff. The only thing keeping me from giving it five stars is that it is British humor, which not everyone loves (like the "git'er done" crowd) and that it's a play, and plays are way more funny on stage. But if you like to read plays, and you like British humor, this is like a six or seven star book for you.

It's a good reference and some interesting recipes. Deducted stars for the entry on Red Root which is known as Amaranthus Retroflexus in the book but it looks like the author is talking about Ceanothus Americanus. Amaranthus Retroflexus can be medicinal but doesn't support the spleen. At worst, it might be laxative. Not a fatal mistake but it's wrong nevertheless. Not acceptable in a 'herbal apothecary' book. To author and publisher: Please note correction and vet the rest of the book!

Oh dear.I was flipping along, pretty happy with it all when I got to Red Root. Which the author specified as Amaranthus Retroflexus and then went on to say that other common names are New jersey Tea,. etc.These two things, Amaranthus and the medicinal Redroot, are not even in the same family, There is a red rooted pigweed (Amaranthus) but it is NOT the redroot of herbal medicine.While the sort of red root of Amaranth won't hurt you - it is considered a nutraceutical, if not a medicinal - it is really very different from the proper medicinal herb redroot. Redroot is in the Buckthorn family and is often called New Jersey Tea.Errors like this are unacceptable.I want my money back.

Unless you're very educated and knowledgable about medicinal herbs, this book is NOT for beginners. I am a beginner with a great interest in medicinal herbs but the herbs they listed in this book are some that you can't even acquire in the states. Love the photos and how easy it is to follow along but definitely have some prior reads before purchasing this one.

The Herbal Apothecary is a fantastic book that covers various herbs and methods of using them for medicinal purposes, including herbal tea blends, tinctures, etc. There are beautiful photos, useful charts, great recipes, and instructions on how to use various herbs and infusions. Overall, this is one of my favorite books on herbs, one that any herbalist should have.I'm aware of the mistake the author originally made with Red Root, but the whole book does NOT deserve to be negated because of one mistake. The entry has been edited since! This book is not worth one or even 3 stars in any way and I think it's irrational. So to make up for the 1 star reviews, I'm giving 5. This book is a valuable herbal resource. It's packed with really useful information for anyone interested in herbs and natural healing.

I have read many herbal books in my life; believe me. So, I can sincerely say that this book is by far one of the best that I have read. It was very easy to read and not boring. Reading this book made me feel that it was written especially for me. The in formations shared were valuable and personal to me. The book contains a wealth of life saving information written by a person who loves and respect the trade of herbalism and natural living. I have learned so much about herbal healing and remedies just by reading this book in a week ,than sitting in workshops for months and even years. And the price of the book is very economical;thanks. great book. shows lot of detail, only wish it had more information for each plant. will need to find another book, can never be too careful.Does not show enough information on it's uses and how to prepare them for each use.Otherwise, photos are nice identifiers.A good herbal book will have Photo, usage, details, symptoms and interactions with herbs.

Bought the book on a whim since it's been something that I've been interested in for a while. This is definitely an awesome introductory book that gives a thorough introduction both to typical herbs that one might find, their effects, and the traditional methods in which they were administered (teas, tinctures, etc.). There are also a handful of typical recipes for different conditions listed in the back of the book. Unfortunately, some of these recipes include herb ingredients that aren't listed in the book which is why I give this book 4 starts instead of 5. I'm sure there was a reason and this is an introduction book, but why list a herbal recipe in your book but leave half of the herbs in the recipe out of the book?Still, this is a very good introductory book and the parts that were explained where explained very well.

This is a real eye-opener to the teachings of Calvinism. It gives clear and precise answers to the teachings of Calvinism that show that it is not at all Biblical. I suggest anyone who has held to the teachings of John Calvin to seriously consider the evidence presented here.

This book is SO GOOD~!!! The title says it best... "Is Calvinism Biblical? Let the Scriptures Decide". The author definitely brings together the scriptures that are clear on what God intended to convey about this subject. If a person truly lets the text of Scripture determine their theology instead of letting their theology determine the text, they will have a clear answer to the Question in the title of this book. Another great benefit to this book is that it is not a huge book, but short enough that you can find the answers in scripture without being overwhelmed with pages and pages of reading. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who truly wants Biblical answers~!!! :-)

I’ve long been concerned by how Calvinism seems to get in the way of Christianity. Even as a youth I couldn’t understand why my youth pastor so passionately declared himself a Calvinist instead of simply a Christian.Sometimes it can seem that if you’re not a Calvinist, you’re not evangelical. This book will give you a clear and concise defence against the doctrine of Calvinism and help you to stick with faith alone.

Clear exposition in the relevant passages, but where is an irenic neutral textbook on this correct approach? There is yet to appear a comprehensive, non-confrontational text on this good theology.

Calvin followed the method of all cult leaders, twisting scriptures to fit his preconceived ideas. This volume only covers a sample of many hundreds of verses he got wrong. And worse, used force, imprisonment, exile or death to ram his teachings down Geneva's throat. Small wonder he died hiding in the woods. And that there are no Calvinist churches within miles of Geneva.

This is an outstanding book. Wilkin takes the five points of Calvinism and picks two passages from the New Testament that refute each point. Actually, he discusses six points because the "P" in TULIP involves two points: the preservation of the saints and the the perseverance of the saints. When one reads this book he finds 12 clear passages that show that Calvinism is more of a theological system than an biblical framework. Traditions are hard to change, but if you have a Calvinist friend who sincerely wants to know if it measures up the the Scriptures, this book would make a great gift.

Reading this book was like experiencing a Vulcan mind-meld focused on RX.Previously I knew only that reactive programming was some kind of listener pattern. After reading this book I am comfortable discussing the various flavours of RX, how they can be implemented in different languages and what libraries are suitable.Thanks to the author for expanding my brain.

Do the first example run? No.Book says to run lein run -m sin-wave.serverWhat works? lein run -m sin-wave.applicationI'm not so good at clojure that I feel comfortable (or want to spend the time) debugging the author's code.

I've read through this book once and am planning on re-reading again. I've been working with Clojure and ClojureScript for a little while, and was working on a web app using concepts from reactive programming when this book was released. This has been the best resource I've found for understanding reactive programming and should be accessible to beginners to Clojure who know nothing about reactive programming. It has lots of references if you want to dive deeper into different paradigms or libraries, and the discussion of the concepts was very interesting and worthwhile.One of the things I appreciated about this book that is somewhat rare in technical titles is the variety of different libraries, styles of reactive programming, and range of examples covered. They are all examined in pretty thorough depth and built on from each other, and I know that I will be using it as a reference for future projects to see how to apply reactive programming ideas to different domains.One of the very few technical books I've stayed up late reading. Highly recommended.

It was obvious that the author was under a very tight deadline to produce this book. The publishing company and editors, on the other hand, really let the author down. Nobody... and I mean NOBODY checked the code or explanations before sending this off to the printing press. I felt like I was reading a rough draft. And, when I reflect on it, it probably wasn't too far from that. In one chapter there were as many as 3-5 errors per page.Anyways, as for the content of the book, the author, in whirlwind fashion, talks about all of the following libraries:Reactive Extensions - Rx (RxJava, RxClojure, etc.)core.asyncReagiReact.jsOmImmenent (a plug for the author's own Futures replacement library)I read this book in one sitting (minus some breaks). Having set it down, it felt kinda like I had just spent a day at a convention going from booth to booth and hearing about various vendors' solutions.I definitely felt like I learned from the author. Overall a lot of the code was instructive to read. Even with all of the errors. You'll likely come away from it knowing more than you did before hand. Which is the point, really.Frustrating, poor quality book. But for a half-day of reading you'll learn some good tidbits and get a high level tour of some useful libraries.Would’ve given the author 3 stars but I knocked one off for publishing company’s “rush out the door” practices and the impact that has on the reader.

I was fortunate to have seen a small part of this title ahead of print; consequently, I had high hopes for the full published work, and was not disappointed.This title is a solid compendium of FRP in Clojure. After a brief introduction to the history, terms and patterns of FRP, you'll find yourself reading about such topics as Rx, asynchronous networking, core.async, Om, futures and more, with numerous examples covering at times both Clojure and ClojureScript.On the topic of examples, one highlight of this book is the frequent revisiting of a particular problem or snippet, with alternative approaches, as motivating examples for how Reactive Programming and/or different libraries and patterns can be leveraged. For instance, the Futures chapter develops an example using clojure.core futures, and then illustrates some of the difficulties in their application by constrasting with an alternative library developed by the author.While a broad range of concepts are covered, the material should be accessible even to those relatively new to Clojure (if you know what "lein" is, you're good to go!)

The first example will not work. I have tried looking up the errata and searching the net for possible fixes, but it just won't work. The book seems nice, but a non-working first example is terrible.

This is an intermediate to advanced book on Clojure and Clojurescript programming. It's a selection of techniques for concurrency, asynchronous and reactive programming, with a perfect balance of practice and theory.Chapter 4, on core async, is a good example is chapter 4. Borges outlines the issues with using callbacks to deal with concurrency, and he also discusses Communicating Sequential Processes as a solution. That's the theory. Then, he shows an implementation of this solution using Futures, and also explains the core async library. The rest of the chapter is an implementation of a toy stock market app. This to be the best material on learning core async that I've found.The other chapters are just as good. Don't miss it if you are interested in taking your Clojure skills to the next level.

I liked how Justin Davis makes a diary of a baby mew because I like learning about mews history .I also always liked mew. He’s cute.

This is an excellent book. Well written, well researched, succinct, full of information and inspiring. It is a true story of how a group of determined people succeeded in achieving a goal when the people controlling the local government were against them. Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King, Jr. came out of a movement built by the hard work and courage of hundreds and thousands of people. King and Parks were trusted spokespeople for a much-larger grass-roots movement. The standard narrative is that Rosa and Martin acted largely on their own, but Freedom Walkers shows the many ordinary people who were the heart, soul, backbone and brains of the movement. There is no reason this book should be classified as "grades 6 to 8", as adults reading it will find it fascinating. It holds many lessons we can still use today.

It really was a great book. The author did a great job of keeping the reader interested. I wanted to know more about the civil rights movement and the author did a great job with that. I DEFINITELY recommend this book to anyone who is interested.

It is a great book for learning about history and history seems to be repeating itself.
