She has earned degrees in Anthropology (B.A., University of Mississippi), Archaeology (M.A., Washington State University), and Geology (M.S., University of Washington). Currently she teaches at Everett Community College and enjoys developing active-learning science curricula.

Love this book~! Bought it a couple weeks ago and started reading last week, am now about half-way through and I must say--- this writer/instructor sure makes geology understandable to layman like myself. Have a few other geo-books, like the Roadside series, and I find myself struggling to follow the writer's geography-laced jargon because I was constantly referring back to the Index, which sometimes, the words just weren't there to help me better understand. Geology is an incredibly complex subject but Ms Spooner puts it into a very digestible format. Thank you~!

Great book really helped me out with my prior Geology class that I had taken with the author who wrote the book herself. Having her as a professor and as well as a reference using this helped tremendously on understanding the course.
I find this an excellent book for any one intereseted in Earth Science. It prersents some pretty technical information in layman's terms and explains those terms associated with Geology that must be used. A good book for a Geology 1 student to use as a supplement to a college text book but also a good book for the non-student just interested in why we have earth quakes, volcanoes and all the rest of those things. This book covers everything I ever dreamed of knowing about our earth in easy to understand terms. There are lots of "Ah ha!" moments where I finally understood certain concepts that had always been a mystery to me. Definitely a keeper!
This book answers all your geology questions simply and clearly. Sometimes I wonder why books like this are not used in universities instead of the textbooks chosen by professors. No doubt, it has something to do with the publishers of textbooks. Nevertheless, you don't need a geology textbook if you have Geology for Dummies. I look forward to learning more geology after learning the terminology and definitions of the body of knowledge of geology in this one little book. It is a good read also!
This is a fantastically written, easy to understand review of Geology that really helped me understand the subject in such an easy way. As a long time fan of the Dummies books this is at the top of my list for developing an understanding of a subject quickly. I have to take a Geology class soon and I feel so much more confident now. As I study Soil Science going forward I'll be sure to get any of the Dummies books written by Alecia Spooner! Highly recommended!
'Geology For Dummies' has been big seller for Amazon for a long time now; I got the cheapest copy I could get and even that took a while owing to its popularity, but it's been more than worth it. All the basic concepts of the earth are spoon-fed just the way a 'Dummies' fan likes it. Halfway into it now I know it's a 5-star keeper, for sure. Highly recommended.
