As the book title states, this is a collection of 30 short erotica stories.The stories do not have a lot of build or backstory, as these are focused on a quick trip to the main scene, which is going to be down and dirty. With 30 stories, you get a variety of couples and settings, but most (all?) of them involve alpha males and their oh so willing females. Each scene is hot and steamy, and fun to read. Crouch, a West Point grad and army ranger, is the latest climber/journalist to try to capture the unseen heroics of those who reach the summits of the world's highest peaks. Instead of summitting familiar peaks, the author describes three separate expeditions to the remote Patagonian mountain range in South America, a series of peaks straddling the border between Chile and Argentina. There he completes a successful climb up the Compressor Route of Cerro Torre, one of the world's most sought-after summits; a first ascent of the north face of Aguja Poincenot; and a treacherous winter ascent of the west face of Cerro Torre, another first. These three climbs are bracketed by long vignettes about the unpredictable Patagonian weather and Crouch's disappointment with routine life back home in America, where he works construction and other odd jobs to pay for climbing trips. On the mountain, Crouch vividly describes the technical and psychological aspects of climbing, as well as the distinctions of the Patagonian peaks. Unfortunately, he is also prone to distracting bouts of macho philosophizing. Off the mountain, Crouch is so absorbed with thoughts of climbing that he contrasts everything in his life with his moments in the mountains. If good writing matters to you -- a lot -- then whether you even like climbing or not is almost irrelevant as to whether you nab the book.The writer's intense emotional connectivity to the mountains of Patagonia, his compulsion to make the climb, the relentless physical drive to make these climbs happen are narrated in such a lyrical fashion that you'll fall in love with the mission too.There are portions where he is talking about snow and mountains faces and god awful weather that are so beautiful it translates into the kind of yearning most of us reserve for a first love.This is one of those books I"ll read again, just because I want to swim in that language.

I've never gone rock climbing in my whole life and don't really have any ambitions to do so... but this book is so beautifully written and inspiring that none of that really matters. I love the intensely personal tone of this book, almost like reading a diary. Taking a peek inside the intimate world of the alpinists was also very interesting and special. I find myself constantly highlighting great quotes to remember for presentations to my team or just general life moments. It takes a special writer to capture a story that is inspiring without being trite or cheesy. Crouch is that writer.

I loved this book. I was inspired by the tenacity of Crouch and his climbing partners, the descriptions of Patagonia and of course his many climbs. This one is definitely a keeper and it wouldn't shock me if I read it again just for the pure enjoyment of being transported to parts south.

Gregory Crouch is more than an adventure writer; he is a nature poet, chronicling his climbs in the Patagonian Andes--the near vertical faces of Cerro Torre, Fitzroy, Aguja Poincenot--fighting rock and ice, snow and wind, fear and fatigue, while conquering the otherworldly mountains straddling Chile and Argentina. Crouch's team of climbers was the first to complete a winter ascent of Cerro Torre's notorious west face in winter, a mind-bending feat considering how often climbs end in failure and sometimes death. His passion for climbing began as a cadet at West Point, where he scaled the Shawangunk Mountains by the Hudson River in New York, and continued long after he left the military following the first Gulf War. He worked construction jobs before becoming a full-time writer, saving every cent and going back to the Patagonian range again and again, comparing his quest to Captain Ahab's obsession with the big white whale in Moby Dick. Crouch's book is full of ripe metaphor and imagery: "Cracks and booms heard in the howl of storm are comprehensible to me, but not the mumbled conversations, barking dogs, ringing church bells, and the toneless organ growl that I hear...the asymphonic chorus that will pipe us into hell." The game is survival, and those who do are the unsung heroes of climbing as in war: "True toughness sits quietly, like the dull luster of a worn pair of combat boots or a battered ice axe."

Such a great book and extremely well written. Really pulls you into Greg's life and what it's like to climb in Patagonia. Good for anyone with an interest in traveling and the outdoors, not just for alpinist and mountaineers

I like adventure and I enjoy reading about climbing and climbers in particular. I find that, in addition to the physical skills and mental toughness required to be an accomplished climber, I’m also inspired by climber’s passion and total commitment to their craft. To be dedicated to something where you are willing to give all you have physically and mentally to accomplishing a goal has always been attractive to me. In this respect Crouch does not disappoint. I also enjoyed Crouch’s honesty and humility when talking about his own abilities. This is a rare quality among climbing authors. This is a surprisingly well written book where the author is able to share with the reader, quite graphically, some of the physical and mental challenges a climber faces when climbing in such a remote part of the world.

Really enjoyed reading this book. The author does a wonderful job of bringing the drama and storms right into your vision. The book covers some of the most epic routes on Patagonia's high peaks and the list of charactors could not have been more real if they were made up.The chapters of Gregs flatland journies to get to his climbs are enjoyable. There could have been some more photos but other than that a real good book about what it takes to climb and stay sane in some of the worst mountain weather on the planet.

Her first book, The Oyster War: The True Story of a Small Farm, Big Politics, and the Future of Wilderness in America (2015) was a finalist for the 2016 Orion Book Award. “How do they walk in these things?” plaintively queries a high-heeled Jack Lemmon as ‘Daphne’ in Billy Wilder’s ‘Some Like It Hot’. The more fundamental question, directly and intelligently addressed in Summer Brennan’s ‘High Heel’, is why do they walk in these things at all, given that their pinched toe and tilt of the foot makes them so impractical and uncomfortable?Her own love-hate relationship with this object (she records falling whilst trying to run on 4-inch heels) results in Brennan offering a finely nuanced assessment of the ambiguity surrounding this cultural icon. Thus high heels can combine formality and femininity for the professional woman, whilst also being associated with the sex worker and fetishism. Their height suggests heightened status yet their restrictions on movement invite or impose passivity. They can come across both as empowering and liberating and as cruel and degrading (the modern-day equivalent of the lotus shoe), and those that wear them can thus appear as beautiful and alluring or vain and deluded. Not surprisingly, then, high heels constitute, as Brennan states a “fertile locus of feminist debate.”This loosely structured book has an historical dimension but doesn’t really provide a systematic or detailed history of the high heel. Tellingly Brennan’s Bibliography contains Ovid, the Brothers Grimm, Sylvia Plath and Virginia Woolf but not June Swann’s ‘Shoes’ or Colin McDowell’s ‘Shoes; Fashion and Fantasy’, or Pattison and Woolley’s ‘Shoes: A Century of Style.’ This is because Brennan kicks off her high heels in order to range far and wide, pondering portrayals of femininity in Greek myth and in fairy tale as well as issues relating to female objectification and sensuality in the modern (western) world.The fetishist or historian interested only in high heels will likely find this book somewhat disappointing but anyone curious to learn how heels, and shoes more generally, are “about … power, or the lack of it” will find ‘High Heel’ very well written and thought provoking.

A researched collection of vignettes about the meaning of high-heeled shoes. It is an impressionistic piece of creative nonfiction divided into 150 passages. A lot of attention is paid to the fact that high heels usually (but not always) prevent a woman from running and moving as freely as she otherwise might be capable, and to how this fact is subliminally absorbed and understood on a cultural level, enhanced by mythological tie-ins on the theme of escape. I was intrigued by the number of references to how fancy shoes pinch the feet. Some challenging perspectives, like Chrissie Hynde's comment about her own rape, were included. No attempt is made to hurry to a facile thesis that these shoes are "good" or "bad," and the reader is let alone to draw their own opinions and conclusions.

High Heel by Summer Brennan is a free NetGalley ebook that I read in late March.Brennan takes an unusual Greek philosophy route to chaptering the story and a formal decorum in its prose. Shoes portrayed as being a portrait of their wearer, the image (i.e. elegance, power) they want to convey, appearances in works of fiction, and the evolution of shoe design and height over time. There's also philosophic questions posed on the nature of beauty and what is attractive, playing an empowered role, sexual qualities of feet and shoe shapes, and the dangers of undue attention and violence.

On the heels(!) of her brilliant The Oyster War, Summer Brennan delivers a fascinating and revelatory reflection (one might say object lesson) on what has been otherwise a ubiquitous aspect of the deep state of gender definition and control. At least it was ubiquitous to this male. Now not so much. Now my eyes are the more open. The lesson has been delivered, with verve, humor and piercing insight.

Summer Brennan is a brilliant writer and researcher and make us think in new and more in-depth ways. She changes the way we see things.

Poetry is a hard one for me to review because I really haven’t reviewed a whole lot of it, and it’s also something highly subjective. So keep that in mind when moving forward, what works for me may not work for you and vice versa.I quite like the collection presented here. It speaks of the poet’s experiences with love, trama, self-discovery, healing and mental illness. The book does contain subjects that can be difficult to read about, but she included a list of trigger warnings in the beginning just in case anyone needs that heads up.Some of the poems really spoke to me and even though a few of them were only a line or two long I found myself re-reading them a few times, especially those that spoke about depression and the way people view you vs. the way you view yourself. The imagery she uses in her poems is beautiful even in those that cut deeper and leave you raw. I find that reading other people’s experiences with the same things I deal with help me process my own issues, sometimes in different ways than I would have done on my own. It’s an interesting healing process that sort of opens myself up to other options.As a part of the LGBTQA community, I also value the experiences she shared with her own sexual and gender identities and I think she did a wonderful job of really capturing the emotions of self-discovery from fear to acceptance.Louve -ch is definitely one to look out for in the poetry world, and I thank her for sharing something so personal and providing what could be inspiration and healing to others going through similar experiences.

the author shows such vulnerability with her experiences including rape, ptsd, depression, anxiety, trauma, LGBT issues and advice. she never appears as a victim, her words are powerful, guiding us all to heal. she is a influencer of good. she shows us that no matter how dark life gets, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. I read a poem from the book at least once a day and it helps me survive my own mental health. as an lgbt author she does an excellent job bringing many issues together including that with gender identity, sexual identity, love, heartbreak as well as the struggles to be a woman in todays society, eschpeially a gender fluid lesbian/pansexual/demisexual. her journey is inspiring. a must read for poetry.

She saved me, before I even I purchased this book, she already grabbed me and pulled me out. You feel the pain, and the love written amongst the pages. Yet even with darkness surrounding the words a light shows cleverly hidden between the letters. I’ve never been so moved in my life, or been shown who I truly am inside until I found her. I told her my story, and how she played a part in it, and I want to repay her with this review. Buy it, read it, borrow it from someone and save a life. Save your own. I promise you’re not alone and the poems inside will nourish your heart and soul. I promise.

Seriously the best ever! I feel, see, taste every word she writes. Her words paint a picture such as no one before has been able to do. She reaches deep into my souls and touches my very core. Everyone of her poems is explosive with instensity. I am amazed, that it’s even a possibility to express such deep rooted and raw emotions. I Love, Love, Love her poems and I am telling everyone I know to read her poems. It’s a book to keep near by and read over and over-to savor each word!!! What an inspiration and healing too... so needed by human kind especially today..........

This book was intentionally a gift for my niece who had a terrible secret which she is now just seeking help for. In no way shape or form should this book be considered a self help book. The author in my mind has stepped off the cliff and is wallowing away in her/his own pity party. A sophomoric, I give up manual for people that are suicidal or are thinging about ending it all.

I’ve been reading a lot of poetry book lately about relationships and self worth. But The wolf & Her moon was a book I needed before I knew I needed it. It was so much more. I felt understood and validated from her writing about child abandonment to mental illnesses and self harm. To loving again. I could read it 1000000 times. Always find a new page to connect with.

I love this book and all it’s contents, i Never thought I would like poetry but after picking this book up I was blown away at how these words she arranged in such a way would make me feel. This book has all the feels. I would highly recommend.

I moved to the USA in 1986 and was going through some old things and came across the tape I brought back across the pond. Much has changed since 1976 when I began writing and recording my first hypnosis tape, and since 1979 when I recorded my first subliminal tape. My name is Barrie Konicov. I am the author and voice of Potentials Unlimited products. I began my hypnosis career in 1976 by conducting group Weight Loss and Stop Smoking classes in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I wanted to extend the benefits of the class once the people had gone home, so I wrote and recorded these two titles to give away to the class participants. Later, I would go on to write and record over 200 titles. My intention was to bring the benefits of hypnosis to every household. Standing the test of time, my products have become the standard for hypnosis/subliminal products around the world. This is a very nostalgic item for me; my Mom used to put it on for my siblings and I to help us get to sleep. I really enjoy the music.

I absolutely love this CD. Puts me to sleep almost every time. It is so relaxing. I have a lot of stressful situations in my life and this is just what I needed to help me calm down. His voice is soothing.

I've bought sublinal tapes in past very disappionted was not what I was looking for wasted my time and money on this product

I have this on cassette. I also have Stop Smoking, Stop Drinking and Overcoming Procrastination all on CD. My first Konicov was Self Hypnosis on tape (don't know what happened to it) and then I found Stop Smoking on tape and I later purchased Money and Prosperity on tape but it was stolen. I did what I was instructed to do and it worked especially the Stop Smoking. I completely gave up cigarettes and have not had the compulsion or craving to smoke at all. With the Relaxation tape I listened to it for 30 days straight as I was having sleep difficulties. After that I listened to it whenever I felt the need. Since I was spending so much of my time on the PC I decided to create myself a background that would remind me of the tape and its messages. I used RELAX in big bold pleasing letters and I was surprised at the effect it had. Immediately I calmed down upon seeing the word. I also tell myself to relax when I am feeling uptight and the rest of the tape kicks right in and I chill. Let no one tell you subliminal messaging is ineffective, if done correctly it is powerfully effective and if you are willing that makes it even more effective as your mind will be even more ready to receive the messages as I was. I was so ready to quit smoking that I am sure it is part of the reason it was so effective so quickly. I hardly have to listen to that tape anymore. Thanks Barrie

This CD really works to get the most relaxing night's sleep I have ever experienced. I recommend this to all who want to awaken refreshed and relaxed. I feel better, look younger, and am more relaxed since I have started using this relaxation CD. AND "it is acceptable to sleep thru this recording, since the subconscious mind never sleeps". 5 STARS!!!!!

The first time I listened to this CD I nearly fell asleep in the middle of the afternoon. It was wonderful! Unfortunately my son made so much noise, he destroyed the mood. But, at least I know the relaxation techniques work.

This primer bridges both worlds of Arduino and Raspberry Pi with excellent attention to details for the uninitiated. If you need proven solutions AND willing to fork some $$$ for the sensors you will achieve a sense of satisfaction in quickly reproducing the abundant examples in the book.The more I use the book to evaluate the exercises, the more I am impressed by the attention to detail by the authors. Of course, there will always be opportunities to explain things in more detail for diverse audiences but I have to confess that most of the discrepancies I am capturing below may be due to "operator error!" :)I will append editorial oversights below as I dutifully step through each chapter [be warned: this is not my day job :)]Figure 1-7 does not match Table 1-1Example 3-5 assumes that the on-board LED (pin #13) is used in Figure 3-10Example 3-4 invokes "botbook_gpio.py" which failed compilation in my IDLE 3 environment (I corrected the print statements) at line 25, column 20 for the "wa" dual attribute. Apparently one attribute is allowed in my configuration. Not knowing enough about the low level details, I changed the setting to a single attribute but ran into "timeout" problems with the pulseInHigh(echoPin) method. Perhaps an example of the "operator error" I alluded to earlier.

This is a very good but limited exposure to sensors for both Arduino and Raspberry Pi. If you have interest in both then the whole of the book applies. Although it covers many popular sensors with in-depth sketches, explanations, and diagrams it leaves some untouched. I love the quality of the glossy paper and colored pictures — it rates among the best. I would have preferred separate books for each micro-controller type with coverage of more sensors, but we have what we have. It’s nicely done and in an attractive package.

I like this book, the author is clear and concise.I give this book a 3 because there is no list of components required for the projects. I was hoping to get a parts list or something like that so I could work along with all the projects. I ended up spending a lot of time improvising and researching alternatives or buying other products like the sunfounder raspberry pi starter kit.

I gave only 3 stars because the title implies " making sensors" with only the soil sensor even mentioning the possibility of making a sensor. The title should have been "Using readily available sensors".

I am really enjoying this book. I am just getting started in robotics and don't understand all the Arduino and Raspberry Pi code yet. But this book provides a lot of good learning examples.

This is a good book which every Arduino owner should have and work through. The sensors are primarily KEYES sensors and can be found in the 37 sensor collection which I bought.

This is a very useful book, covering the fundamentals. I've read the whole thing, it got me going on a much more elaborate project than covered in the book, but almost all the necessary information (save a few bells-and-whistles) was there. My son likes it too, and he's getting his feet wet now. It was a real good purchase.

Covers many common sensors and provides easy to follow demonstrations for both ardunio and raspberry pi. Provides wiring and source code with explanations.

I never read Neil Gaimans Sandman when it first came out. A friend introduced me to volume one and I was lost for good. The story of Dream and his siblings, all I can say without spoilers is: Go. Go forth and read all of the volumes. You. Will. Not. Be. Disappointed.

I only recently got into comic books and have been pretty picky about what I like. In researching new series for me to read, I kept coming across The Sandman. The story sounded interesting but I was put off by the art style so held off on starting it. However, it kept coming up on blogs and forums. "XYZ Comic could be the next Sandman!" they said.So I gave in and bought the first two volumes. I read the first volume and was pretty sure it wasn't for me. It starts slow and appears to throw a lot of random information at you, almost all of it is irrelevant for the first issues featured in this volume. But I decided to read the second volume since I had already purchased it. I'm glad I did because that is where it really starts to come alive! The random information and characters aren't so random anymore. They have their own stories and developments that all tie back to the aspect of Dream.The writing is fantastic, the character development is believable, and the art brings it all to life. I've come to not only appreciate the series in it's entirety but have also become a big fan of the author Neil Gaiman. If you're like me with an initial hesitance, give it a chance. I'm really glad I did!

I became aware of Neil Gaiman in general - and Sandman in particular - listening to Tori Amos as a teenager. She has a line in a song called "Tear In Your Hand," on her debut album Little Earthquakes, that goes, "If you need me, me and Neil'll be / Hangin' out with the Dream King."Way back then, I researched it and found out about Sandman. But this was before the Internet, and before I had my own money to spend.Fast forward about *mumble* years. I've read several of Gaiman's novels. I've long since stopped devouring every Tori Amos album as soon as it comes out. (Or at all, to be honest.) And I'm browsing Amazon and come across The Sandman series. So I buy the first volume. Along with one of my favorite early Tori albums, just to really get back to my roots.I read Volume 1 in one sitting. I've never been much of a fan of comics. I read The Watchmen and, at my husband's urging, one of the Batman ones. The Dark Knight something or other. I like comic book characters, I love the Marvel movies, but reading graphic novels is difficult for me. I never know which panel to go to next, and I feel like I miss things.I'm not an idiot, I swear. There's just something about the way they're put together that makes it hard for my brain to digest.The Sandman was not too difficult to grasp, though. For the most part the action was clear, and of course Neil's stories were beautiful. I loved Dream, I adored Death, the art was phenomenal, and I couldn't stop turning the pages. I absolutely cannot wait to read the rest of the series. I am forcing myself to wait a few days before I order Vol. 2, because I don't want to spend $100 in one month on comic books. I mean, I DO want to, but I probably shouldn't.

This was a very interesting beginning to what is sure to be a very interesting series. I began The Sandman not knowing what to expect. I have only read one other book by Gaiman, and that was his collaboration piece with Terry Pratchett, so I wasn't all too familiar with his voice as a writer, let alone in this medium.It started off a little slow for me, and a little strange as well (there were some shining moments like Dream's visit to Hell). Around issues 6 and 7 though, I think Neil found his groove and I really got into the story. Dream is an awesome character. At once horrifying and compassionate. A man out for vengeance, but also wishing for peace. I am excited to see where the series goes from here.

This is truly an awe-inspiring piece of art. The characters, the plots, the art, and the atmosphere are simply amazing. I'm actually glad I didn't read this earlier in life (I'm in my 30s) because I don't think a younger me could have appreciated this for the story that it is, which if I'm correct, is a story about storytellers (and maybe Mr. Gaiman himself). Because, really, what are dreamers if not storytellers?

First up, all of the 10 volumes of The Sandman novels deserve 5 stars. They are a phenomenal acheivement in not only graphic novels but in storytelling itself. The story is complex and cerebral and the characters so well developed that Sandman is one of my favorite stories period. The novels are intensely violent and often disturbing but everything that happens serves a purpose, and nothing happens by chance or just for the sake of things happening. Something that happens in one volume may become vitally important 3 or 4 volumes later. By the end of the 10th volume everything has come full circle with an appropriate and satisfying end.With regards to Volume 1, many consider it to be a weak link in the series but I do not. Granted it is primarily focused on introducing characters and setting up the plot for the entire story, but it's done well. The plot concerns a cult attempting to capture and control Death. Instead they get her brother Dream, who is then held prisoner for decades. This is not without some disturbing consequences as people fall prey to a "sleeping sickness" and Dream's kingdom falls into utter disarray. Upon escaping Dream must regain control of his kingdom but in order to do so he must retrieve the sources of his power which he placed into objects. Subsequently these objects have been scattered during his imprisonment.As far as the volume's content on the Kindle Fire - I was hesitant to abandon the volumes in print worried that the Kindle Fire might provide a more difficult viewing experience. That hasn't turned out the be the case. The novel is easy to read, you can scan in to specific boxes, and the colors are vibrant.
