This primer bridges both worlds of Arduino and Raspberry Pi with excellent attention to details for the uninitiated. If you need proven solutions AND willing to fork some $$$ for the sensors you will achieve a sense of satisfaction in quickly reproducing the abundant examples in the book.The more I use the book to evaluate the exercises, the more I am impressed by the attention to detail by the authors. Of course, there will always be opportunities to explain things in more detail for diverse audiences but I have to confess that most of the discrepancies I am capturing below may be due to "operator error!" :)I will append editorial oversights below as I dutifully step through each chapter [be warned: this is not my day job :)]Figure 1-7 does not match Table 1-1Example 3-5 assumes that the on-board LED (pin #13) is used in Figure 3-10Example 3-4 invokes "botbook_gpio.py" which failed compilation in my IDLE 3 environment (I corrected the print statements) at line 25, column 20 for the "wa" dual attribute. Apparently one attribute is allowed in my configuration. Not knowing enough about the low level details, I changed the setting to a single attribute but ran into "timeout" problems with the pulseInHigh(echoPin) method. Perhaps an example of the "operator error" I alluded to earlier.

This is a very good but limited exposure to sensors for both Arduino and Raspberry Pi. If you have interest in both then the whole of the book applies. Although it covers many popular sensors with in-depth sketches, explanations, and diagrams it leaves some untouched. I love the quality of the glossy paper and colored pictures — it rates among the best. I would have preferred separate books for each micro-controller type with coverage of more sensors, but we have what we have. It’s nicely done and in an attractive package.

I like this book, the author is clear and concise.I give this book a 3 because there is no list of components required for the projects. I was hoping to get a parts list or something like that so I could work along with all the projects. I ended up spending a lot of time improvising and researching alternatives or buying other products like the sunfounder raspberry pi starter kit.

I gave only 3 stars because the title implies " making sensors" with only the soil sensor even mentioning the possibility of making a sensor. The title should have been "Using readily available sensors".

I am really enjoying this book. I am just getting started in robotics and don't understand all the Arduino and Raspberry Pi code yet. But this book provides a lot of good learning examples.

This is a good book which every Arduino owner should have and work through. The sensors are primarily KEYES sensors and can be found in the 37 sensor collection which I bought.

This is a very useful book, covering the fundamentals. I've read the whole thing, it got me going on a much more elaborate project than covered in the book, but almost all the necessary information (save a few bells-and-whistles) was there. My son likes it too, and he's getting his feet wet now. It was a real good purchase.

Covers many common sensors and provides easy to follow demonstrations for both ardunio and raspberry pi. Provides wiring and source code with explanations.

I never read Neil Gaimans Sandman when it first came out. A friend introduced me to volume one and I was lost for good. The story of Dream and his siblings, all I can say without spoilers is: Go. Go forth and read all of the volumes. You. Will. Not. Be. Disappointed.

I only recently got into comic books and have been pretty picky about what I like. In researching new series for me to read, I kept coming across The Sandman. The story sounded interesting but I was put off by the art style so held off on starting it. However, it kept coming up on blogs and forums. "XYZ Comic could be the next Sandman!" they said.So I gave in and bought the first two volumes. I read the first volume and was pretty sure it wasn't for me. It starts slow and appears to throw a lot of random information at you, almost all of it is irrelevant for the first issues featured in this volume. But I decided to read the second volume since I had already purchased it. I'm glad I did because that is where it really starts to come alive! The random information and characters aren't so random anymore. They have their own stories and developments that all tie back to the aspect of Dream.The writing is fantastic, the character development is believable, and the art brings it all to life. I've come to not only appreciate the series in it's entirety but have also become a big fan of the author Neil Gaiman. If you're like me with an initial hesitance, give it a chance. I'm really glad I did!

I became aware of Neil Gaiman in general - and Sandman in particular - listening to Tori Amos as a teenager. She has a line in a song called "Tear In Your Hand," on her debut album Little Earthquakes, that goes, "If you need me, me and Neil'll be / Hangin' out with the Dream King."Way back then, I researched it and found out about Sandman. But this was before the Internet, and before I had my own money to spend.Fast forward about *mumble* years. I've read several of Gaiman's novels. I've long since stopped devouring every Tori Amos album as soon as it comes out. (Or at all, to be honest.) And I'm browsing Amazon and come across The Sandman series. So I buy the first volume. Along with one of my favorite early Tori albums, just to really get back to my roots.I read Volume 1 in one sitting. I've never been much of a fan of comics. I read The Watchmen and, at my husband's urging, one of the Batman ones. The Dark Knight something or other. I like comic book characters, I love the Marvel movies, but reading graphic novels is difficult for me. I never know which panel to go to next, and I feel like I miss things.I'm not an idiot, I swear. There's just something about the way they're put together that makes it hard for my brain to digest.The Sandman was not too difficult to grasp, though. For the most part the action was clear, and of course Neil's stories were beautiful. I loved Dream, I adored Death, the art was phenomenal, and I couldn't stop turning the pages. I absolutely cannot wait to read the rest of the series. I am forcing myself to wait a few days before I order Vol. 2, because I don't want to spend $100 in one month on comic books. I mean, I DO want to, but I probably shouldn't.

This was a very interesting beginning to what is sure to be a very interesting series. I began The Sandman not knowing what to expect. I have only read one other book by Gaiman, and that was his collaboration piece with Terry Pratchett, so I wasn't all too familiar with his voice as a writer, let alone in this medium.It started off a little slow for me, and a little strange as well (there were some shining moments like Dream's visit to Hell). Around issues 6 and 7 though, I think Neil found his groove and I really got into the story. Dream is an awesome character. At once horrifying and compassionate. A man out for vengeance, but also wishing for peace. I am excited to see where the series goes from here.

This is truly an awe-inspiring piece of art. The characters, the plots, the art, and the atmosphere are simply amazing. I'm actually glad I didn't read this earlier in life (I'm in my 30s) because I don't think a younger me could have appreciated this for the story that it is, which if I'm correct, is a story about storytellers (and maybe Mr. Gaiman himself). Because, really, what are dreamers if not storytellers?

First up, all of the 10 volumes of The Sandman novels deserve 5 stars. They are a phenomenal acheivement in not only graphic novels but in storytelling itself. The story is complex and cerebral and the characters so well developed that Sandman is one of my favorite stories period. The novels are intensely violent and often disturbing but everything that happens serves a purpose, and nothing happens by chance or just for the sake of things happening. Something that happens in one volume may become vitally important 3 or 4 volumes later. By the end of the 10th volume everything has come full circle with an appropriate and satisfying end.With regards to Volume 1, many consider it to be a weak link in the series but I do not. Granted it is primarily focused on introducing characters and setting up the plot for the entire story, but it's done well. The plot concerns a cult attempting to capture and control Death. Instead they get her brother Dream, who is then held prisoner for decades. This is not without some disturbing consequences as people fall prey to a "sleeping sickness" and Dream's kingdom falls into utter disarray. Upon escaping Dream must regain control of his kingdom but in order to do so he must retrieve the sources of his power which he placed into objects. Subsequently these objects have been scattered during his imprisonment.As far as the volume's content on the Kindle Fire - I was hesitant to abandon the volumes in print worried that the Kindle Fire might provide a more difficult viewing experience. That hasn't turned out the be the case. The novel is easy to read, you can scan in to specific boxes, and the colors are vibrant.

One of my childrens' favorite stories! It has inspired many hours of "playing Roxaboxen!"The children in this story find endless imaginative uses for what most people would call trash - and the story is told in such a way as to excite children to use their imaginations with the things they find lying around. I am a fan of unhindered, outdoor imaginative playing, and this book has certainly inspired that in my children.

As a mama of 4 kiddos who loves creative play and reading more than electronics, this book is probably on my top 5 list. Children as young as 3 love this book. It's a wonderful world of creative play and is inspired my children to go and do the same. They love this book as much as I do!

This is one of the finest children's books I've ever read. It brought tears to my eyes when I read it years ago -- and I had to buy another copy now to read to the next generation. It brings back so many memories of my own childhood, from an era long ago. Yet, children today can still appreciate it. It's beautiful.

"I love it!" "It's really clever!" "It makes you want to go outside and put things together!" These are direct quotes from my 9 and 7 year old children :) I came across this book last year and checked it out from the library. Then I purchased it for our personal collection. Needless to say, our 3 children (an we parents) LOVE the book. Bonus, it's based on a TRUE story! I'd give it 10 stars if possible--it reflects the imagination and joy of childhood that all readers will relate to!

This book was a childhood favorite of mine. I bought it again because the local elementary school was having a family reading night and I thought the kids might like it. Boy was I right! Of the books they had to choose from each group chose this one and I wound up reading it 5 or 6 times in a row.One of the things I love about this book is that it encourages imagination. With very little these kids create a whole world. I hope that at least one kid I read to that night went outside the next day and picked up a black pebble or rode a horse made from a stick and brindle.

This book took a long time to arrive, but so glad it made it here! What an absolutely delightful read. I enjoyed the imaginations of the children coming to life and their "town." It brought back many similar memories of my sisters and me playing outside.

Classic story about the magic of childhood and the hours spent playing. It captures how ordinary things shape your life and become beautiful memories.

I grew up with this book, and I was extremely excited to have found it online and at an affordable price for my daughter. My younger brother, sister, and I were always into building forts, so it was interesting to us. Regardless of the small amount of actual content in this book, a few of the characters were developed well enough that we each could relate to one of them, which endeared it to us even more. A great book for small children.

I pre-ordered this book hoping it was neither a deep dive that heads down every conceivable rabbit trail, nor a cursory gloss over of this giant of a Texan. Author Brian Cervantez nailed it and strikes the perfect balance. What I didn't know when I ordered the book is how fluid and pleasing Professor Cervantez's writing style would be. Simply put, this book is as readable as it is informative. I highly recommend it for anyone who has in interest in the history of Texas and Fort Worth, as well as the business giants of Carter's era who left their mark on the State and Nation, an impact that is still felt today. Kudos to Professor Cervantez on a great read. I thank him for his work on the project.

The Inklings were also united in their devotion to Northern mythologies and so-called "high style," in counterpoint to post-war modernism and the influence of Bloomsbury. Thus their Thursday evening meetings in C.S. Lewis' rooms at Magdalen and the Tuesday morning continuations at The Eagle and Child pub both enhanced and strengthened their desire to revive and give new life to ideas that were in danger of being lost. In large part that desire has been successful, though the Zaleskis admit at the end that the Inklings' "permanent place in Christian renewal and, more broadly, in intellectual and artistic history, is for the future to decide."I enjoyed The Fellowship. Having been a fervent reader of J.R.R. Tolkien for over forty years I was already familiar with his biography, though I found much here that was new to me. I have also enjoyed C.S. Lewis' works, and I appreciated reading the Zaleskis' sometimes critical analyses of his thinking. I am less familiar with Charles Williams and Owen Barfield's writings, but the Zaleskis have inspired me to seek out more about them. Perhaps the most important result of the Zaleskis' work is a fresh appreciation for those Inklings meetings that helped give us so much that is beautiful.

I am not a scholar and thus am not qualified to write a detailed, referenced and coherent review of this work. So here are some notes from the viewpoint of the completely hobbit obsessed fantasy fan.First off, though the book is quite extensive, fully sourced and covers a lot of ground in more or less chronological order, it is also quite readable for someone that has not spent their whole life in the ivory towers of academe. The authors spend the time to explain influences, to review other authors and works that are related to the main works of the Inklings. Reviews and contemporary reactions to the major works are discussed, both good and bad. So though the material is fairly high level criticism, it is accessible to the layman. There were no sections that were a chore to wade through, the whole work kept me engaged.A minor warning though, synopses are made of all the major works of each author. If you have not yet read all the works of all the major members of the Fellowship, it would be best to read them before diving into this one. There are some pretty major spoilers.I've read several other biographies and histories of the Inklings and Tolkien, this is by far the most detailed one. I discovered and rediscovered many facets of the story of these great authors, and many puzzling pieces now fit together. I think I'll read the trilogy again, I always cry at the last scene. How wonderful to know that the author was also in tears as he wrote about the ship setting sail on that last journey.

This book can't decide if it is written for lay people or academics. Some sections are a real slog (summaries of the writings of Charles' Williams are gibberish), but if you are a fan of Tolkien & Lewis, it is worth reading the parts of the book that discuss them. It seems odd that the authors felt a need to give complete summaries of books like the Narnian Chronicles. I did finish it - even looked through the end notes - but wish it had been something it was not. I'll keep looking.

This is a lovely book that so well captures the charm and intelligence of these four men, the Inklings, thinking and philosophizing while at Oxford in the 1930s and 40s. Bookended by two horrible wars, the story of how they came to create worlds of fantasy and thought with a religious context is absorbing. It certainly makes you want to have been a fly on the wall at the Eagle and Child pub where they held so many discussions. I visited this pub two years ago and was shown the corner table where they often met, and it was like visiting holy ground.
