Nice initial approach. Concepts are also well explained but it ends by there.Most of the references and samples are very dependent to to a single environment (using Microchip IC).This made me stop reading it. I was expecting a broad point of view, so to speak, something to apply to any embedded.I was going to buy the complete series, but fortunately I just bought this one, and i won't buy the others.I'll keep searching to see if there is something better.So, I you don't have any idea of USB storage, and you've worked only with Pic/Dspic, etc. ... It's the right for you.If you don't have any idea of USB storage, and you can work with any embedded environment, kind of it's ok.If you have mid or plus, knowledge of USB and you are expecting nice techinques or methods using general examples. Well, humm.. no. Go look for something else.

Provided a good explanation of what had been confusing for me about how different systems wrap code. For example, a file system "wrapping" the SCSI commands for reading/writing mass storage which in turn are wrapped in USB package wrappers for transmission and execution through USB link. Why some mass storage systems do (Flash Drive) or do not (SD drive) need USB wrappers.Best book I have read which brings it all together.

Its a good start for someone like me who does not know nothing about Usb Mass Storage.But if someone expects a full and complete index about everything related, well its not exactly that.Don't think i'm underrating this book, in fact it is the best i have read.But it covers the essential, it is not a full and in depth guide for every Usb Mass Storage scenario.But is very didactic and concise, plus i am glad to have bought it!

Very helpful reference.

This is the second book I purchased from Amazon as a companion to the other twos.

I bought the book specifically because of the "Create embedded hosts that access USB storage devices" on the cover and in the summary. My aim was to learn more about what has to happen on a USB host in terms of initialization and communicating with a mass storage device. The book content on this topic is at a higher level and pretty short.As a general reference at a higher level on what happens with USB mass storage communications, the book is very good.

This is a very well done book on a very topical subject. USB mass storage has gotten so inexpensive that its use in dedicated embedded systems has become almost a given. And here is one book that talks about all aspects of putting such a system together.The book basically covers three subjects:First there is a general discussion of mass storage in general. This includes hard drives which may be the most economical for your application, and it includes various types of flash memory devices.Second the book covers the hardware interface down to the level of giving a sample circuit.Finally there is a description of the software that will be needed to get the devices to operate. This goes from the simple structure of the commands down to the definition of file systems.In short, here is a complete guide to USB Mass Storage in one, fairly small, book. This is all the engineer/programmer needs. Ms. Axelson has written a number of books on USB in general and clearly knows whereof she speaks.

I used this travel guide during my three week volunteer assignment in Huambo in central Angola early this year. There are not a lot of stunning attractions in Angola. It's a country that is just ten years away from thirty years of civil war. There are still some bombed out, shot up, and burned out buildings scattered around Huambo where I was located. Huambo was the center for one of the militias. One of the staff I worked with lost his father in fighting at the airport during the conflicts. His family members were refugees in Zambia for some of the conflict years. That's where he went to school. Everyone's lives were touched by the conflict. But now they've moved on. Angolan towns feel like you're in Brazil. The villages are definitely African. But the major towns are youthful, clean, and people are happy to have you there. There are parks and town squares surrounded by leafy suburbs. Shoprite is a major supermarket chain where you can get all your food and supplies. They have a great bakery in Huambo. There are some good restaurants. The best food was at a home where expats from Spain and Cuba were gathered. The Brazilian influence is strong in food, music, and clothing styles.Luanda, the capital, is the most expensive major city in the world. So be prepared. Hotel rates are exorbitant and restaurants are as expensive as in the Eurozone. You'll need this travel guide to help find some reasonable values. I understand from the book and the locals there are some nice beachside towns south of Luanda along the coast. There is beautiful country scenery in central Angola. But many of the trees were cut down for firewood during the conflicts. Agriculture has been increasing in the rural areas. Almost everywhere the mines have been cleared. But the wild animals were are killed for food or target practice. I saw a few birds. So go elsewhere for your safari experience. We've been to the Serengeti in Tanzania twice. It's the premier safari experience with all the animals. Visit Angola to practice your Portuguese and meet some friendly people. And you'll experience another flavor of Africa with a bit of Brazilian salsa. Tourism will come as the country rebuilds. But it's not there yet.

Great book

I went to Angola twice and the book helped me a lot with what I was looking for. Well-written and full of information, perhaps suffering from more research in the far-flung outposts of the country (if you care to get there in the first place).

This book was pretty straightforward. I got it for my husband for the ASE test. He passed on his first try, however he has 7 years experience in the field. It's good for the 6 practice tests, but I wouldnt reccomend it as your only resource for someone with little to no hands on experience. There are some typos in it, but it caused no issue in studying.

Too many errors. Poor editing. ASE should not have let this edition to be published.

Only a handful of the questions in the book were on the test. Do not rely solely on this book if you are preparing for the G1 exam.

It’s awesome that it has reading material then throws you in a practice test. It’s a good read and helps out

All I did was take the 6 practice tests at the end of the book and i passed! Granted, I took each test 4 times.. it’s effective

I have mixed feelings about this book. I picked it up based on the premise that it showed the author's "process" and sketches when working on a project, in contrast to most books about design only show the final image. And while she does offer some insights into each project, most of the sketchbook images are the final draft, ready to be scanned and used in Illustrator. I would have like to see more rough thumbnails, false starts, and abandoned routes on the way to the final image. Including more of these would have helped tremendously.So props to the author for lifting the curtain surrounding the process a bit, but disappointment that she does not pull it back completely and show projects from beginning to end.I read the Kindle version and am happy to report that it is great. Lots of custom typefaces and impeccable formatting. A lot of work went into the design of the digital version, which most publishers would treat as an afterthought.

I've been waiting for this book before I even knew I was waiting for this book. I was turned onto Hische's work in my fundamental college design classes and have since been stalking her website for inspiration during my own lettering projects. For what it's worth, I do consider Hische to be the greatest modern vector letterer there is, so I suppose this review is somewhat biased.What I respect about Hische is that she's willing to share her secrets. If you've taken her Skillshare classes, there's a lot of repetitive info here, but even so it's great to have it in documented form so that you don't have to go back and watch the videos. If you haven't, well, prepare to get a lot of information thrown onto you that makes this a must-have manual for any aspiring letterer. What I believe is new content not seen in her video and on her website are all of the sketches, right down to the erased lines and pencil indents on the paper. The sketches not being 'retouched' to look perfect is absolutely wonderful and reassuring that not even the best letters get their lines right the first time. Hische shows her process for an intricate print featuring her most famous quote from beginning to finish, and then dives into different work she's done for clients. All of it is gorgeous, and I would be totally content with just a book of her work, but her sketches and rationales for everything bring it to life so much more.Not to mention, this is one gorgeous book inside and out. The hardcover is thick and vibrant, the interior is designed so well, and you can tell so much care was taken with the presentation. It's a masterpiece as far as design books go and sets the standard for lettering books to come.

I've purchase many hand-lettering books, and this is by far one of the bests. (i'd expect nothing less from Jessica Hische). Her text is insightful and easy to understand. This book shows off some great process work from start to finish. I'd definitely recommend this book to anyone: From the beginner to the Pro.

This book was better than I expected. In the past when I’ve bought books on lettering, they always seem to just be the author showing off their work and then a step by step tutorial on how to do the same exact thing. No education on why things work or don’t work.This book differs in the fact that the author displays her past client work and explains the whole process from sketch to production. She explains the different choices she made and why. The best parts are when she had to upgrade old logos and she pointed out what worked and what didn’t work in the old one and the steps she took to make the new one look similar but better. She also gives advice on good ways to work with vector shapes when making your final designs in a vector program.I feel like I finally learned a lot about how to determine a good typefaces from a bad one. However, I do think I was able to absorb the information in this book better because I have studied this topic before, but I still think this is a book for beginners.

As a graphic designer, I love getting a peek at process. Seeing a bunch of shiny finished products is fun and all, but I like seeing the behind-the-scenes. Hische's writing is fun and wise beyond her age. Her experience as a public speaker comes across here. The examples are great to look at and clear. I wish there was more content to look at!

I've been a designer since a long time before computers were a tool and in my first school and work years it was common to do lettering, but I did it less because I became involved with other type of projects. This book made me want to do hand lettering again! I really recommend it to any designer, specially to young designers who jump straight to the computer with not too much sketching by hand. Jessica I love your work!

Well-written, but not what I thought it would be. I was looking for a book that would help me learn to create interesting lettering projects for myself. This is really an autobiography.

The author wrote what appears to be a good book covering a lot on interesting information. Whoever actually edited/produced the book failed big time. There are descriptions that are presenting in a very small font making a good magnifying glass mandatory. The color selection for illustrations was awful. One had medium deep blue lettering on a darker blue background making it most difficult to see/read. Black lettering on dark colored backgrounds just don't work. Books like this should convey the information with minimal effort on the part of the reader.

Great book, as a Christian who a) suffers from depression and b) uses secular buddhism to help my prayer life (meditation can help). First 2/3 of the book were excellent and purpose drive, the back third lacks drive and meanders and is more navel-gazey. Even with that lack of clarity in the back stretch, an excellent read and worth your time. I recommended it to two people and they both liked it as well.

Fantastic and helpful book. I would love to see a companion piece written about how to embody the practice of "Living with the Devil" because this symbolic way of relating to ourselves and "our demons" is very helpful. I would love to hear individuals relate these ideas to their 1) meditation practice 2) mode of living. I have some thoughts myself but I won't share them in a book review. Buy this book!No Mara, no buddha.

I have a lot of books on Buddhist and Taoist philosophy & beliefs. This is my favorite one. I read from it almost every morning. I bought a copy for my child as I think it contains more wisdom and guidance for living a good life than any other book I have found.

This is the fourth of Stephen Batchelor's books that I have read. Having gone from a fundamentalist version of Christianity to Buddhism, only to find myself a marginal Buddhist, his other books helped me with my agnosticism. But I remained a religious man who rejected religion. This book helped me with that.Having long thought of the myths of religion as metaphor, but often puzzled as to what the message is, this book offered clarity. I have been wandering the gaps without a name for it. Thank you Stephen.I have written too much of me perhaps for a book review but it is because this book spoke to me in a very helpful way. When a book speaks to you like this it is more than just a good read. We live with the devil, it's best to learn to minimize the damage.

Reading the book I began to understand the history of the devil myth. As usual, he’s a fountain of historical information and philosophical mental calm.
